Brunswick

Publication Design – A Creative Suburb Visualised

When thinking of Brunswick, the mind immediately turns to the vibrant street murals that colour the suburb. Renowned for its strong arts and live music scene, this project explores Brunswick through an artistic lens—highlighting how creativity and visual expression shape the culture and identity of the area.

Initial research involved a series of on-location observations, which were captured and collated into a visual collage. From this, selected imagery was further developed to reflect the suburb’s retro aesthetic and artistic energy—most notably through its widespread graffiti and mural art that adds a splash of personality to nearly every street.

Brunswick isn’t just a place to view art—it’s a place to make it. The suburb is home to a range of hands-on creative experiences, including jewellery making, pottery, and paint & sip classes. These activities embody Brunswick’s community-driven artistic spirit and encourage locals and visitors alike to participate in the creative process.

During my exploration, I also discovered businesses that reflect and contribute to this cultural identity. Hillvale Photo, a local film photo lab, celebrates the nostalgia and artistry of analog photography. Meanwhile, Pelican Studios—a sculpture studio known for its large-scale public art—embraces Brunswick’s colourful vibe with its own street mural featuring a vibrant pelican.

Drawing on these observations and experiences, I’ve created an artistic visualisation that captures the essence of Brunswick—an ode to its creativity, community, and unmistakable character.
